Shirley Ratchford

Shirley Ruth Hedrick Ratchford, 89, passed away on July 19, 2022, at Peak Resources in Cherryville, NC.

A native of Hickory, NC, her parents were the late David W. and Vertie Lail Hedrick.  She resided in Bessemer City, NC after her marriage to her late husband Paul Lewis Ratchford.

She retired from the Gaston County Cancer Services and spent many years working at Lewis Motors and Earl Tindol Ford in Gastonia.

Mrs. Ratchford was a member of Antioch Lutheran Church in Dallas, NC, where she loved singing in the choir for over 45 years and participating in all church activities.  She loved her family and was a caring grandmother and great-grandmother.  Her greatest pleasure was cooking for her family as well as others in the community.  Her best quote was, “and you know and everything!”

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ratchford was preceded in death by her brother Wade Hedrick (Peggy).

Mrs. Ratchford is survived by her two sons, who she loved more than life itself, Rodney K. Ratchford (Gail), Jerry V. Ratchford (Janet); brothers, Frank Hedrick (Pat), Joe Hedrick (Pat), Hal Hedrick (Mary); grandchildren, Andrea Ratchford Finger (Mike), Dr. Thomas H. Ratchford (Hilary) and Mark Hines (Kaylee); great-grandchildren, Ainsley Finger, Adalyn Ratchford, Eliana Ratchford, Gabriel Ratchford and Amelia “Millie” Hines.

In celebration of her life, funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday, July 25, 2022, at Antioch Lutheran Church, Dallas, NC where the family will greet guests one hour prior to service in the Fellowship Hall.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Antioch Lutheran Garden of Peace Cemetery.
