Wilma Hughes

Wilma Sue (Franklin) Hughes, 93, was called home Wednesday, May 30,
2018. She was born in Bessemer City, NC on November 23,1924 to the late Frank O. and Doris (Penland) Franklin.
Mrs. Hughes and her husband, Bob, moved to Dunnellon, Florida, in 1961 from York County, SC. She was employed by Marion County Schools for more than 20 years in food services. She spent all those years at Dunnellon High School, retiring as cafeteria manager in 1991. Above all, she loved her family and enjoyed the time with them. Other interests included bowling, serving in her church, fishing on the river, and playing Rook with family and her best friend Esther White. She was known for her wonderful cooking and very happy to serve family and friends. Mrs. Hughes loved the simple and most important things in life. She was happy to sing songs while her husband played the piano or sit in the yard swing with him by her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Claude R. "Bob" Hughes. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Buddy Lee (Wylene) Hughes of Six Mile, SC; James H. "Jim" (Carolyn) Hughes of Inverness, FL; Bobbie Sue (Richard) Brown of St. Augustine, FL; brother, Keith Franklin of Dallas, NC; sister-in-law, Audrey Franklin of Bessemer City, NC; 7 wonderful grandchildren, Dianne McKinney, Brenda (Rickey) Moore, Charlotte (Jimm) Thompkins, Deanna (Shane) Waybright, Dana Rise, Rich (Amy) Brown, and Robbie (Adriane) Brown; 14 beloved great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Sisk-Butler Funeral Home in Bessemer City, NC with Dr. Steve Taylor officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, NC.
