William Hicks Goforth

William Hicks Goforth, age 85, of Gastonia, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born July 19, 1937, in Rutherford County to the late Cornelius Guy and Geneva Spake Goforth.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty Frances Bradshaw Goforth; grandson, Mitch Kayler; brothers, Ray Goforth, J.P. Goforth, and Don Goforth.

Hicks was a longtime member of Firestone Wesleyan Church. He was the owner and operator of Car Fare Inc. of Gastonia. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching many different sports. He loved spending time with his family and will be missed dearly.

Hick’s family wishes to honor his special caregivers; Nikki Orr, David Davis, and Tré Robinson.

Survivors include his daughters, Jane G. Bridges, and Suzanne G. Kayler (Robert); grandchildren, Andy Herms (Lisa), Wesley Herms (Brittany), Cody Bridges, Elizabeth Meek (Malcum), Eric Rogers, and Emma Kayler; great-grandchildren, Liam Meek, Mason Meek, Declan Meek, and William Herms; brothers, Vaughn Goforth (Cynthia), and Wayne Goforth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Firestone Wesleyan Church with Rev. Don Avore officiating. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
