Tony Douglas Thornburg, 81, passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 5, 2023.

He was born in Dallas, North Carolina on July 30, 1941. Tony was a 1959 graduate of Dallas High School. He spent most of his life employed as an 18-wheeler truck driver. Tony was an avid sports enthusiast who loved racing. He loved his family and will be missed dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father William Columbus Thornburg, his mother Myrtle Holloway Thornburg, his brother Bobby Loy Thornburg, and his two beloved pets Buddy and Trixie. He is survived by Geraldine “Geri” Easler Thornburg his wife of 42 years, Brenda Elizabeth Guthrie his sister, Cynthia Denise Johnson his daughter, Timothy Douglas Thornburg, Terry Dwayne Thornburg, and Troy Lee Eleder his sons. Chastity Lynn Johnson, Shane Alan Beattie-Thornburg, Kaylee Elizabeth Beattie-Thornburg, Dylan Mason Beattie-Thornburg, Dylan Allen Beattie-Thornburg, his grandchildren, as well as his nieces, nephews, and cousins, special daughter Tonya Church and best friend, Gary Crotts.

Visitation will be at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home in Bessemer City, North Carolina on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
