Mary Evelene Payne

Mary  Evelene “Dink” Payne, 90, of Bessemer City, passed away peacefully at CaroMont Regional Medical Center on December 30, 2022, at 10:50 PM. She was born July 7, 1932, in Gaston County, to the late John Baxter Wells and Sadie Lottie Crook Wells.

Evelene was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Richard Earl Payne; brother, William “Big Bill” Wells; sisters, Ruby Wells Cobb and Inez Wells Lail.

Evelene loved the Lord and was a charter member of Westview Baptist Church. More than anything in the world, she loved her family and spending time with them. She also enjoyed cooking, shopping, and family gatherings. Her personality was magnetic, and she would light up any room with her wit and bright blue eyes. She was dedicated to those she loved and made an impact on the lives of all who knew her. To know her, truly, was to love her.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Rick Payne (Rhonda); grandchildren, Tiffany Payne Costner (Cameron), Zach Payne, Taylor Payne; great-grandson, Beckham James Costner; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home at 730 Gastonia Hwy., Bessemer City, NC 28016. Evelene’s funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Scott Rudisill officiating. Interment will follow at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.
