John Childers

Cherryville, North Carolina

John Lewis Childers, 79, passed away on Sunday January 22, 2017 at Peak Resources, Cherryville. He was born on December 26, 1937 in Gaston County to the late John Earl Childers, Sr. and Vida Neill Childers.

Left to cherish his memories are his son, Jeffery Childers of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Sandi Pennington and husband Rick of Gastonia; granddaughter, Jacquelynne Childers of Bessemer City; brothers, Sam Childers and wife Marlene, Charles Childers and wife Sandra, Don Childers and wife Linda all of Cherryville; sisters, Helen White of Clover, SC, Shirley Ramsey and husband Ray of Rutherfordton.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, J. E. Childers, Jr., Wayne Childers and Paul Childers; sister, Betty Byers.

John was a veteran of the United States Army. The family would like to thank John's special friends, Bob Hubbard, Jerry Rikard, and the staff at Peak Resources for his care.

His funeral service will be held 4:00 pm Thursday January 26, 2017 at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Millwood officiating and military honors by Bessemer City American Legion Honor Guard Post 243.

His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be held at 1:00 pm Friday January 27, 2017 at Veterans National Cemetery in Salisbury with military honors.
