Clarance Jackson (CJ) passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 17 at his home in Mooresboro, NC. Although his failing health took him away from us, his strength of character and positive outlook on life made our time spent with him an uplifting experience.
CJ was born October 6, 1930, to the late Jackson and Iva Costner, and raised in Bessemer City, NC. He was preceded in death by Dorothy (Dot) Fulton Costner, his loving wife of 37 years, and his brothers, Arvin Marcel and David Rush Costner.
He will be lovingly remembered by Janet Martin, his loving companion of 30 years, his children: Garry Fuller (Carol) Costner of Salisbury, NC, Iva Jean (Preston) Floyd of Gastonia, NC, as well as Troy (Hope) Martin of Mooresboro, NC.
Grandchildren include Stephen (Brandy) Costner and their children Chase and Logan, Kevin (Kellie) Costner and their children Jackson and Riley. Jessica (Joey) Hughes and their children Alauna, Caroline, Lily, and Ivy. Daniel Hughes.
Step-grandchildren include Brandie (Brandon Collins) Blanton, Michelle Walker, Jamie (Brandy) Martin, and Katie Martin.
CJ grew up in Bessemer City, NC where he was active in the YMCA Golden Gloves Boxing while in school. At age 17, he joined the United States Navy serving his country aboard the destroyer USS Buckley. Following four years of service he returned to Bessemer City and married Dot. He was employed by Ideal Industries for many years before embarking on a new business venture with his brothers, forming ARC Enterprises Inc. Involved in the acquisition and sales of industrial machinery as well as real estate, home construction, and commercial business development. He was a lifelong Mason.
After his retirement, he enjoyed travel and spending time with family and loved ones. He could often be seen on the dance floor 'cutting a rug', the jitterbug being his favorite dance.
CJ had a direct and honest approach to life, and family and friends would often seek him out for life forming and monetary advice.
Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the nurses and associates of Carolina Caring Foundation, especially Kelly, Penny, Brittany and Angela for their professionalism while providing loving care to CJ and his family during their time of need.

CJ’s visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022, prior to the service at the funeral home.
The service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Gomez officiating.
A graveside service will follow at the family plot in Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery, Bessemer City.
