Irene Harmon

Bessemer City, North Carolina

Irene Gibson Harmon, 100, of Bessemer City, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday November 8, 2017 while at Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was born July 27, 1917 in Spartanburg, S.C., daughter to the late Verlon and Leathie Crawford Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde M. Harmon; son, Derry Harmon.

Irene was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Bessemer City. Throughout her life Irene has worked in Gaston County at a local bank, as well as a bookkeeper for several businesses. She has also knitted 622 caps for children who were a part of First Baptist Daycare as well as for infants in the hospital and for children who attended Christmas events.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Gerald Harmon of Bessemer City; grandchildren, Matt Harmon of Monroe, Allison Thomas and husband Richard of Mint Hill; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Hannah Thomas.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Bessemer City.

Her funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday at the church with Rev. Tom Ravan officiating.

Interment will follow at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 397, Bessemer City, NC 28016.
