HELEN PREAST

Mrs. Helen Louise Stuart Nelms Preast, died peacefully at Robin Johnson's Hospice House in Dallas, Saturday, March 4, 2017. She was born September 7, 1939 to the late Robert Frederick and Beaulah Ballew Stuart of Piedmont, Alabama.

After retiring from Rhyne Elementary School in Gastonia, where she taught, she continued to work as a substitute teacher for the Gaston County Schools up until her death. She was an active member of her church, Springwood Freewill Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC.

Survivors include her loving daughter Cassandra Scarlett Smith, of Lincolnton; two step-daughters, Kay Nelms Grant, and Diane Nelms Kellar of Gastonia. Her grandsons, John Hinson and Perry Hinson of Gastonia, Patrick Hinson of Dallas and greatgrandchildren Ryan Hinson, Eayon Hinson, Dylan Hinson and Pieper Young all of Gastonia, NC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husbands, Wesley Zack Nelms, and George Ray Preast, her son, Robert Fredrick Nelms and step-son Kenneth Nelms.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2017 at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremations Services with Pastor Jeff Silver officiating.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery East, Lincolnton, NC.
