Geneva Lingerfelt

Geneva McGinnis Lingerfelt, 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 13, 2016 at Wendover Hospice, Shelby. She was born on April 20, 1919 to the late Jacob and Essie Anthony McGinnis.

Geneva was born Easter Sunday April 20, 1919 the youngest of three daughters. A pre-teen she accepted Christ with faith and Baptism at First Baptist Church in Cherryville. Teen years the family moved to Shady Grove Baptist Church area and this became their home church. Student at Tryon School is where she met, loved and married husband Sam, a union of over 55 years before his death in 1992. After marriage she accepted membership with her husband at Concord United Methodist Church. She especially was dedicated to Pauline Stroupe Ladies Sunday School class. She was faithful until declining health. Our mom and mimi was loved by us and she knew it. We were loved by mom and mimi and we knew it. A family truly blessed. She will be greatly missed but her faith, family and flowers will always be a reminder for us.

She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel B. Lingerfelt; sisters, Edith Foster Stroupe, Ruby, Havnaer; nephews, Gary Foster, Wayne Stroupe.

Left to cherish her memories are her son, Richard Carlyle Lingerfelt and wife Wanda of Georgetown, Kentucky; daughter, Gail Green and husband Arthur of Bessemer City; grandchildren, Hal Homesley and wife Diane, Mitch Homesley, Matt Lingerfelt and wife Nicole, Wes Lingerfelt; great-grandchildren, Jamey Homesley and wife Taylor Rae, David Homesley and wife Rachel, Jessica Homesley, Sam Lingerfelt, Genny Lingerfelt; great-great-grandchildren, Annie Homesley, D. J. Homesley; nephew, Robert Stroupe and wife Renee; special niece, Nita Foster Wright.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Saturday October 15, 2016 at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services.

Her memorial service will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 953 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby NC 28150
