Erman Dewitt Busby, 92, of Bessemer City, passed away December 5, 2016, at the North Carolina State Veterans Nursing Home in Salisbury, NC. He was born on May 12, 1924, in Prince George County, VA, to the late Frank and Lillie Howell Busby.

Erman was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Bessemer City where he served as deacon and usher. He worked at Osage Mill and later retired from Firestone Mill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in Italy and North Africa during World War II. As a result of his injuries in combat, he received the Purple Heart.

He is survived by his son, Jim Busby and wife Janice; grandson, Chris Busby and Rachel Herrick; his great-granddaughter, Margaret (Maggie) Sage Busby-Herrick; also his special caregiver, Girlta Robinson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Holland Busby, and by his brother, Willard L. Busby.

Erman's family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm at First Baptist Family Life Center and other times at his son's home.

The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Sanctuary with Rev. Tom Ravan and Dr. Charles Brawley officiating.

Interment will follow at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.
