Eleanor Sue Wilson Unnasch, 75, of Bessemer City, passed away at her home on Easter Sunday morning, March 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 10, 1949, in Gaston County, to the late Nelson Wilson and Myrtle Long Wilson. Sue was a lifelong member of Long Creek Presbyterian Church where she loved to teach bible school and served as a lay pastor with her husband, Kenneth. She was very mission minded and had an adventurous spirit traveling. Going into the mission field to Mexico first and then fell in love with Guatemala and the people there for the past 30 years. Sue was also a teacher, teaching Pre-K and 3rd grade. She was an avid reader and loved to cook and sew. Sue was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and mother-in-law. Especially with her grand and great grandchildren, she had such a special individual relationship with each and every one of them. Her love just overflowed and blanketed everyone she met.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Bill Wilson (Frances); infant brother; and sister Becky Bridges (Joe).
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 57 years, Kenneth Ray Unnasch; children Rebecca Briones (Cat), David Unnasch (DeAnna), Matthew Unnasch (Laura), and Deborah Smith (Kevin); grandchildren, Anthony (Jessica), Amanda (Jordon), Lauren (Douglas), Mikayla (Giovanni), Lane (Angelina), Jonathan (Alex), Joshua (Swania), Renee (Chandler), Hannah (Jared), and Rodney; great grandchildren, Rylan, Bryce, Katie, Mayson, Jaxon, Declan, and Lydia; along with a host of beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and their families as well as loving friends. The visits, phone calls, and Facetimes Sue received during the final weeks of her life were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to her.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 1:30 pm – 2:45 pm at Long Creek Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:00 pm with Pastor Will Upchurch officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
