Dane Grant

Jonathan Dane Grant, age 50, of Gastonia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends Saturday, August 19, 2023, Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born December 21, 1972, in Gaston County to Gary and Kay Nelms Grant.

Dane was a proud graduate of N.C. State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Textile Chemistry. He fiercely loved his fraternity brothers and college friends. He also took graduate classes in Wood and Paper Sciences at NC State. He worked in a variety of roles including making custom cases for musical instruments and bands and custom cabinetry. Dane loved to cook and create new dishes. He was also a lover of bluegrass music. He was skilled at wood working and was an excellent gardener. He especially loved roses. Dane was kind hearted and he never met a stranger. An avid fisherman, he sought solace in the tranquility of nature. Whenever he cast his line into the water, he found joy in the simplicity of the moment and felt connected to the beauty of the world around him.  Engaging, uniquely charismatic, he was truly one-of-a-kind. He had an innate ability to lift spirits with his lighthearted humor and genuine interest in others’ well-being.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving parents and caregivers, Gary and Kay Nelms Grant; sister, Michelle Grant Scott (David); two nieces, Taylor Grace Scott, and Caroline Layton Scott; young honorary nieces and nephews to whom he was known as “Uncle Dane” and also many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Epic Church at Linwood with Pastor Chad Collins officiating.

His family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.

A private burial will be held at Gaston Memorial Park.
