Cleo "Coco" Cable Oates
At the age of 83, Cleo passed away on June 23, 2024, in Gastonia, NC. She was born June 16, 1941, in Proctor, NC. Cleo was the daughter of the late Oliver Clyde Cable and Paralee Mandy Holder Cable. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church of Bessemer City, and she loved God, her family and friends, and her church where she worshipped and served for 44 years. She retired from AT&T (Southern Bell) after 36 years. She was also a member of the Pioneers of America.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Oates, her 8 sisters, and 3 brothers. Cleo is survived by her daughter, Sherry Clubb (Wayne Pendleton), her son, Mac Clubb, her daughter Dawn Whitted (Van), and her brother Clyde Cable (Sandy); 5 grandchildren (Blake Clubb, Luke Whitted, Eli Whitted, Samuel Whitted, and Kaylynn English), an “adopted” daughter (LeaAnn Quinn Moss), “adopted” daughter and son (Cam and Lynn Scism), 2 “adopted” grandchildren (Sarah Stanton and Josh Scism), 1 great grandchild (Ruthie English) as well as husband-in-law and wife-in-law (George and Phyllis Clubb). She is also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Susan and Mack Jenkins and Henry and Barbara Oates as well as many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at First Wesleyan Church 510 E Alabama Ave., Bessemer City, officiated by Rev. Dr. Matt Mitchell at 4:00 pm Sunday, June 30, 2024. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm – 3:45 pm prior to the celebration at First Wesleyan Church.
Burial will be held at Pisgah ARP Church Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Wesleyan Church, PO Box 682, Bessemer City, NC 28016.
