Charlotte Thornburg Crawford passed away peacefully on July 19, 2012. She was born in 1930 in Atkins, South Carolina. Her family moved to Bessemer City when Charlotte was three. She attended Women's College of Greensboro and graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. She taught school in Johnston, SC, at Bessemer City High School and at Highland Junior High School. She was a lifelong member of St Andrews Episcopal Church in Bessemer City, where she taught Sunday School, was on the vestry and played the organ. She was Secretary of the Bessemer City Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Bessemer City Garden Club and the Bessemer City History and Arts Society. She was an active bridge player in several clubs for most of her life. Charlotte loved dearly her family, her friends, her church and the town of Bessemer City.



She is preceded in death by her Mother, Charlotte Butler Thornburg, her Father Raymond Wentworth Thornburg and her husband, Elmer Neil Crawford.



She is survived by her two daughters: Dedie Dooley of Troutman, NC, her husband Bobby and their children Erin and Landyn; and Katie Rossabi of Greensboro, NC, her husband Amiel and their children Griffin, Rachel and Joe. Charlotte is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Sykes of Cocoa Beach, Florida and Hilda Gunst of Bessemer City and brother Robert Thornburg and sister-in-law Frances Thornburg of Bessemer City, along with many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.



A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Charlotte Crawford will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 2:00pm at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Bessemer City with a Reception after the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be made to St. Andrews Church, P. O. Box 611, Bessemer City, NC 28016 in memory of Charlotte.
