Billy Posey

Billy Vernon Posey, 85, of Gastonia, passed away April 19, 2017, at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 26, 1931 in Pickens County, SC to the late William H. and Irene Hackett Posey.

Billy has lived in Gastonia, NC since 1936. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the United Service Medal and the combat infantry badge. Billy was retired from the City of Gastonia Police Department after 31 years of service starting as a patrolman and was promoted through the ranks to Major. At the time of his retirement, he was the commander of operations and in command of the patrol division. He was a lifelong member of Firestone Wesleyan Church. Bill was a lifetime member of the Gaston County Law Enforcement Association. Billy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a friend to all and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter Becky Faile and husband Jeff; step-children Nadine Carter and husband Steve, Eddie Payne and wife Pat, Judy D. Stewart, Toni S. Widener, John "Billy" Stewart, and Randy L. Deal; grandsons Terry Posey and wife Jennifer, Brandon Posey and wife Angel, Nathan Faile; granddaughters, Courtney and Priscilla Faile; and numerous step-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances H. Posey and second wife Jennie Kale "Dean" Posey; son Ricky L. Posey; sisters, Lois Walker, Ruth Posey; brothers Leroy, Eugene, Keith, Rudolph, and Wilbur Posey.

His funeral service will be held Sunday April 23, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Firestone Wesleyan Church with Rev. Don Avore, Rev. Wayne Spear, and Rev. Wes Brown officiating.

Billy's family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:45 pm prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be the Gastonia Police Department and honorary pallbearers will be Gaston area Law Enforcement officers.

Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park military rites by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
