Bernice Barber Brennecke, 76, of Bessemer City, daughter of the late Only and Flora Lee Barber passed away on Friday July 1, 2016 with her family at her side.

Bernice is survived by her husband, Sid H. Brennecke; daughter, Deborah Brennecke of Bessemer City; two sons, Bart Brennecke and wife Brenda of Gastonia, Adam Brennecke and wife Nellie of Cherryville; brother, James Barber and wife Edith of Mt. Home, Arkansas; two sisters, Pat Seymour and husband Bud of Colbert, Georgia, Diane Camaretti and husband Frank of Yulee, Florida; sisters-in-law, Alice B. Bradley and Helen B. Moffett of Dillon, SC.; grandsons, Christopher and Jesse Brennecke of Cherryville.

She was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Bob Bradley and Joe Moffett

Bernice was born in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Her love for Fernandina Beach and her friends there never diminished through the years. She always looked forward to returning for reunions there. Bernice, self-taught, was multi-talented. She could knit, crochet and quilt beautifully. Most of her work she shared with family and friends. Her latest passion was collecting the most beautiful beads that she could find. Her necklaces were a work of art; each one an original. Her generosity and giving spirit, knew no bounds. She shared her necklaces with family friends and acquaintances from Florida to Australia, expecting nothing in return. Bernice was a pass Cub and Girl Scout Leader and PTA President. She also served as the president of the home Demonstration Club. Until her retirement she was Assistant Manager of Eckerd's Drug Store.

Her graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, July 4, 2016, at the Norway Cemetery, Norway South Carolina with Rev. Frank Camaretti officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, Charlotte Chapter 6000 Fairview Road, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28210 or to a charity of one's choice.
